International Debt Crises

The news that England is in bad shape financially added to the list of the PIIGs is  a bad omen.  For one like myself who has no real knowledge of international finances, what can you do but speculate?  How is it possible that so many governments are in deep, deep do?  Not only that, but the timing of it is so strange.  All of them, all at once?  Or apparently so.

The little town in which I live just recently announced it was in a deep deficit, which  did not, however, stop them from continuing the building of a very elaborate and massive recreation center which was practically on the verge of default.  So what did they do?  They raised a local tax to 3% which means when you buy groceries you pay that much to them, and this is the principal shopping center for a number of nearby small towns.  We sport a super WalMart, of course, plus a Home Depot and three grocery centers. 

Add to the mess the state of Arizona is in, Phoenix is in, along with a number of Phoenix subdivisions, and all of them have just one thought:  taxpayers!

A few years ago I went to Phoenix to enter Arizona Heart Hospital which meant my companion and I checked into a nearby hotel.  I only mention this because Jane, the friend that drove me down, stayed there a couple days to keep me company, and we were both shocked.  It wasn’t the price of the hotel room but there was a tax on it besides all the other taxes designated  especially for the Diamondbacks, the baseball team!  A few months later there was a tv discussion about the wages paid to the athletes for playing a game, which are not just astronomical, but downright shocking! Yet if you look at the number of empty seats in the arena, that is also shocking!

That isn’t what I wanted to say, just wanted to put that on the record.  What was on my mind, however, was the IMF  which seems to have all kinds of clout despite its shabby origins – which no one ever seems to mention.  Did you know it was an outgrowth of the plotting done at Bretton Woods,  Dumbarton Oaks, and eventually San Francisco at which the notorious traitor Alger Hiss presided—only it is amazing how few people remember that name or why it is infamous!  If you do know what went on then, you can only shake your head in wonderment that agencies created by people who were on the payroll of the United States’ State Department yet were agents of the Soviet Union could continue administering untold sums of money even to this day!  The  two who put their heads together and came up with the International Monetary Fund were John Maynard Keynes, a Fabian Socialist Brit, and Harry Dexter White, a Soviet agent to whom the then Treasurer of the U.S. Morgenthau, had given all authority to deal with the economies of other countries on behalf of the U.S.!  When White was eventually unmasked, his counterpart, Frank Coe, succeeded him as head of the IMF for six years!  The record according to former employees is 70% failure of all the projects sponsored by IMF! 

I wrote quite a bit about it in my epic, In the Presence of Our Enemies,  which is still available in re Amazon, for those who have any interest in who drives the world’s economies.  And if you, like me, are wondering why all these countries are in dire financial straits even as we are – and asking, how do we get out of this mess?

IMPOVERISHING THE UNITED STATES

 

It didn’t begin with the election of Obama, even if he has done everything to hasten it.  Nor did it happen overnight or even in the last couple of administrations, although it is safe to say, there probably hasn’t been an occupant of the White House since Roosevelt that could possibly have not known.  And, as Jefferson once stated, “what is past is prologue.”

A government report on Activities of U.S.Citizens Employed by the U.N., prepared by the U.S. Senate in March, 1954, identified several Soviet agents employed in the State Department for many years such as Harry Dexter White, William Ullman, Nathan Silvermaster and Frank Coe, and, of course, as we now know, with the 2009 publication of Spies, The Rise and Fall of the KGB in America, the actual number and the length of time covered, has always been vastly under reported.  No doubt Joseph McCarthy had to die to cover up the army of Soviet agents employed in the American government, making policy and subverting the policies they didn’t make!

John Howland Snow apparently didn’t need to know who, how many, and where they were, to write his 1946 epic, Government by Treason, as he did about the Bretton Woods/Dumbarton Oaks/San Francisco meetings where the United States was essentially given over to the world government crowd.  Also emerging from those individuals, unknown, unseen, unelected, came the plot to change the culture into a new shape of their choosing of the whole world—but certainly of the United States.  Snow said Americans were being taxed to support the world in contradiction to the expressed precepts of our Nation’s founders.  He quoted President Benjamin Harrison that “We have no commitment to police the world.”  What upset Snow was that not only were we being conned into policing the world, but into financing our future downfall as well, through the establishment of the World Bank and the IMF. 

As did everyone at the time, Snow credited the Secretary of the Treasury with the concept of “divided Germany by force of arms,” (which later turned out to be Stalin’s plan funneled through Treasury through  his man, Harry White), but Snow was astute enough to recognize “Morgenthau’s plan for an America conquered by force of debt.”

AT the time Morgenthau told  a House Banking Committee “the Bretton Woods agreements are good for every American citizen.  They involve jobs and profits…They govern the amount of food on the family table, the money for a new radio, schoolbooks for the children….”  Just how was not explained and has never been explained—how an international give-away agency over which we have absolutely no control, but started on American tax dollars was to benefit “schoolbooks for the children, or buy food or a radio,” remains a mystery.

Snow wrote”….the plain fact of the matter is that, through the control of finance, of money, and of the lending of money that is the commercial lifeblood of the Nation, top operators of the money racket are in this thing right up to the hilt.  They put their apparent enemies—the Communists and liberals—on the radio, and they pay them.  They put the latter on their editorial and by-line payrolls, and pay them.  They put them in the Government and make us pay them.  But the small imperialist group, and the tiny Communist group are in the game.  Each small group is using the other.  Maybe somebody is using both.  When each has gone as far as he can, they will come to open clash.  Unless our great free people break this thing, one of those two are going to rule….”  Imagine. 1946.  And the time seems to be now. 

Morgenthau was elated at the establishment of the two new international give-away agencies and cheered “that we in the United States are thoroughly sincere in our devotion to the principle of international cooperation.” Two new agencies which we financed but over which have no control.

Snow said Truman had already forgiven 42 billion at one time of this indebtedness—even as new loans were being made to nations who had no assets—“Here in so many words, is  international OPA.  IT, together with its satellite, the International Trade Organization, is to tell—not individuals, not trade groups, but whole nations of people—from whom they shall buy, to whom they shall sell, and how much—if anything at all—they shall pay or be paid on delivery.

“World trade, world cartel, world super-government control through capital regulations—as a permanent arrangement.”  Then Snow predicted the “struggle to come between the communist state and the financial corporate state.”

Snow was aware the driving force behind the Brits’ presence at Bretton Woods was John Maynard Keynes, Fabian Socialist and British sodomite, who christened the “debtor utopia” as “epoch making.” Snow agreed and pointed to the Marxist principle, “The surest way to overturn the social order is to debauch the currency.”  He quoted the British edition of the ‘stabilization fund, “The Clearing Union might become the instrument of policies in addition to those which is its primary purpose to support…The Union might become the pivot of the future economic government of the world.”

Snow said the whole scheme was “playing international  poker with a rigged deck. The house cannot lose.  The people cannot win.”

He didn’t even know how rigged the house was.

It was several years later before the Senate committee established that Communist conspirators took a leading part in the founding of the organizations which became specialized agencies of the U.N., as well as the U.N. itself—or at least, before ‘they’ let the American people in on their dirty little secret.  To this day, most Americans still don’t know—or do they care?

In 1957, Senator George Malone (NV) questioning a State Department employee, remarked, “The only trouble with Khrushchev and
Bulganin is, they are for Russia, like Churchill is for England.  We are the only nation the the world that breed people who are not for it.  Some of our very honest one-worlder people want to divide the taxpayer’s money and markets with foreign nations – they say to keep the peace.  Some of them really believe that by breaking or own taxpayers that we will have world peace…If you will complete the record of when the Export-Import Bank was organized and how much money was authorized and appropriated at first, then we will assume the $5 billion is what we are responsible for now.  The International Monetary Fund?  When was that organized and where?

Mr. Burgess: That was the result of the Bretton Woods Act in 1945.

Senator Malone:  Bretton Woods. Was that where our distinguished American citizen Harry Dexter White was in charge?

Mr. Burgess:  That is right, he and Maynard Keynes, a British economist.

Senator Malone: He was the one who said, “the more money you owe, the richer you are?

Mr. Burgess: Something like that…..”

Further conversation elicited the information the IMF was set up with gold and Senator Malone asked where did the IMF get the gold, and learned “it was part of the terms of the setup…”

He was told a “lot of very theoretical economists and so one, Maynard Keynes and Harry White, what they finally came down with after all their discussions was they had to make it in gold, they had to base it on gold…”

Snow predicted “Here was WPA on a world wide scale:  here was World Political Authority designed to encircle the globe.  You and I, American taxpayers, are expected to pay for it – and we have been ever since.  Do you wonder we are on the verge of bankruptcy?

To which Snow predicted “We die of yellow fever.  We see the ominous beginning of an international ownership of the United States.”   Not only did the Soviets have 12 official delegates at Bretton Woods, but more importantly, most of the so-called American representatives were also on the Soviet’s side—even payroll.  Which led Snow to muse, “No wonder this thing has been hushed up.”

Another economic journalist of that era, Garet Garrett wrote the epitaph:  “The ultimate purpose is political, namely to redistribute the wealth of the world in favor of underprivileged nations.”

In Memorium, 9-11-01

As Lincoln said at Gettysburg, the world will little remember the words spoken about that day, but they will remember the deeds.  So it is with 9/11/01.  Recently I ran across a little known story of that day which (without permission from the copyright owners)  I thought deserved the telling,  different as it is from the human stories, so I will tell you the source so you can get your own copy.

I was reading a small book “Miracle Cats, Inspiring True Tales of Remarkable Felines,” by Brad & Sherry Steiger, 2003, who have also authored similar books I have not read, Dog Miracles and   Animal Miracles. 

The last chapter about Cats relates the authors’ son and wife were miraculously minutes away from the Trade Center, thus escaped harm.  Then wrote: “The many days, weeks, and months that followed the search-and-rescue efforts in the terrorist-ravished area continued to provide both ghastly and frightful images, as well of those of miraculous recoveries through the tireless efforts of the firemen and volunteer workers in the midst of the devastation and danger to their own lives.  Although the media focused on the human lives involved, many other stories of pain and joy also came to light regarding the lives lost or saved of cherished and beloved pets.  The following story is such an account.

“’This is the first good story I’ve heard’ said Suffolk County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Chief, Roy Gross, referring to the rescue of Precious, a beautiful pedigree white Persian cat from the debris of a severely damaged apartment building across from the World Trade Center.  Precious was taken to the nearby Suffolk County SPCA van that was on the scene to treat search-and-rescue dogs for exposure and exhaustion.

‘Precious was dubbed “the miracle kitty” by the New York Post when its October 18, 2001, issue reported the amazing story of survival.  Precious had multiple injuries and was so dirty, confused, dazed, and dehydrated that SPCA Chief Gross could hardly believe the stamina of the cat to survive eighteen days without food.  As he and others later determined, Precious had most likely drunk from pools of contaminated water atop the wreckage to stay alive.

‘D. J. Kerr, owner of Precious, told the New York Post, that the survival of her beloved cat was unbelievable.  "It’s a miracle,” she said. “I can’t believe she is alive.” D.J. and her husband, Steve, had already experienced a miracle in that they were out of town when the tragedy occurred.  After so many days and nights has passed, they had given up on their Precious, assuming she was dead.

‘The Kerrs had been out of town for a long weekend, and they had left Precious secure and safe in the care of a house sitter who was to have checked in on Precious at 10:00 on the morning of the terrorist attack.  Sadly and needless to say, the house sitter didn’t make it, since the atrocity took place shortly after 9:00 am.  Judging by the extent of the damage done to their apartment, the Kerrs didn’t see how their cat could have survived.

‘Their loft apartment in the seven-story apartment building on Liberty Street was in the direct blast and backlash from the Trade Center, and all the windows were completely blown out.  Fire and water had ravaged the interior of the apartment and filled it with bits of metal, dust, and smoke.  The Kerrs were told it would be a minimum of nine months before they could return to inhabit their once comfortable home.

‘Incredibly, emergency workers at Ground Zero told of someone hearing the meowing cries of a cat atop the apartment building on Saturday night, September 29, eighteen full days after the attack.  Responding to the possibility of saving the cat, the workers sent a recovery dog to do some fancy maneuvering and to locate the cat, which was most likely injured, and bring it to safety.

‘The recovery dog did its duty, and soon a tattered cat was taken to the SPCA van. With burnt paws from the intense heat, her eyes badly damaged from flying debris, glass, metal, and dust, and having lost two of its nine pounds, Precious would recover from the harrowing ordeal and be reunited with her surprised and elated owners.

‘The Kerrs welcomed Precious home with her favorite treat, turkey.  She ate turkey and drank water like she was making up for the eighteen days she managed to stay alive with no food or good water.  Precious purred throughout her entire homecoming meal, contented to be with her loving owners.  Precious, as a Persian, a breed said by some to be somewhat snooty and elitist, probably even overlooked the fact that it was a dog that carried her in its slobbery mouth from the top of the ruins to safety!

‘A heartfelt tribute and a great debt of gratitude go out to the wonderful people of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  Their rescues of pets from homes, apartments, and buildings damaged or lost to the Manhattan terror attack goes far beyond the miracle of saving Precious the cat.  Over 150 pets were rescued and treated for multiple injuries—primarily shock, dehydration, breathing problems, and burns.  The ASPCA also set up a pet rescue hotline for concerned and worried owners, as well as counseling service for those individuals who weren’t as fortunate as the Kerrs were.  The pets rescued included rabbits, dogs, reptiles, and of course cats!’”

Reflections from my Scrapbook

I used to wonder if the Romans recognized the fall of the empire was occurring while it was going on, or did they all succumb to the violent entertainments with which the mindless masses were kept occupied—Christians fed to the lions or burned as torches in the arena, and suddenly the glory that was Rome was no more.

Is there that much difference today when more millions go berserk voting for an American idol,  than ever turn out to vote in elections?  Or  are more interested in the news of the day about arrests of multimillionaire basketball, football or “movie stars,” who drink too much, drive too fast, abuse their “partners” or even spectators in the stands?

Memorial Day and even July 4th are something these people know little about.  Catherine Drinker Bowen’s claim (author of Miracle at Philadelphia, the story of the writing of the Constitution), that America’s young people today know little about the 4th was proven correct when this past 4th, a talk radio host interviewed a middle-aged woman from her voice-sound, asking her questions about the reason for the celebration.  Her replies were amusing but pathetic.  She thought we separated from Greece! Even that was pure guesswork, she knew she didn’t know!  This is a condition deliberately created through schemes laid long ago which came into fruition in San Francisco at the writing of the charter of the United Nations. Now it is over sixty years since our youth have been taught from textbooks denigrating the foundations of our government and what was created in Philadelphia.

In San Francisco, there was a regular cadre of Soviet agents working on the formation of the UN.  Stalin didn’t need to be there, he had his agents there in droves, chief among them, of course, was Alger Hiss who was in charge of the whole shebang.  I have dropped Hiss’s name into conversations within recent months and was dismayed to be asked, “Who’s he?” Standing behind Hiss in the shadows, fellow members on the payroll of the State Department, was a whole cadre of Soviet secret agents, some of whom were later unmasked, and others still unnamed, making policies which have changed America’s destiny ever since.

No wonder Whittaker Chambers who blew the whistle on Hiss, sadly remarked when he left the Communist Party and became a “Witness” against it and its participants, that he had joined the “losing side.”  Hiss, the unrepentant, ultimate Judas, who could never admit his affiliations lest it undo that which he had helped create, the UN and its many satellites, designed to drain America dry, but most particularly fulfilled, as an ancient Chinese warlord centuries ago, described, Supreme excellence was in not letting the enemy even know there was a war going on.

The United States was the first country to be created since the Roman Empire, drawn together by ethnicity, and above all, by a common ideal.  The greatest instrument in that creation was George Washington, a man of singular integrity, so unique a personality, in fact, that one of UNESCO’s minions decreed that he should be eliminated from mention in American history lest children be inspired to emulate him!  And so it has been.

Daniel Webster in his 1832 tribute and eulogy to George Washington, predicted about the new  republic, “If these columns fall, they will be raised not again.  Like the Coliseum and the Parthenon, they will be destined to a mournful and a melancholy immortality.  Bitterer tears, however, will flow over them than were ever shed over the monuments of Roman or Grecian art, for they will be the monuments of a more glorious edifice than Greece or Rome ever saw, the edifice of constitutional American liberty.”

It would appear the Republic is well into its death throes now.

Memory Lane

The local paper ran a spread this week on ham radio operators in the area.  It was a great story and brought back memories of long, long ago, well, fifty years or so, when my son was going on eleven and his sister thirteen.

Judy was intrigued by a series of teen novels from the library about teen-aged ham radio operators and their adventures.  She spoke of them often, evincing a major interest in the subject.  Christmas was coming up so I decided to test her interest by giving her a receiver in a  kit,  thinking if she could put it together, perhaps she would pursue the rest of it – all  based on first learning Morse code, which seemed to me an almost insurmountable chore.

What happened is now almost laughable but at the time was grounds for major annoyance.  Judy’s father,  distinguished for his devotion to his work which kept him away from the house until after we had gone to bed, and gone again before we rose up, so that we rarely saw him, decided to put the receiver together, thus defeating my whole purpose.    While we were innocently sleeping, he didn’t go to bed at all but spent the entire night putting the receiver together!  Where was her test?  I was really ticked off.

Unknown to all of us, however, a different  test lay ahead,  one we could never have imagined. I was still reeling with disappointment at the outcome of the radio receiver when Christmas vacation was over. The kids went back to school. 

Not many days into the new year,  Eric’s teacher called to tell me he was continually complaining he couldn’t see the blackboard.  She  moved him  closer, but his complaints kept on, so she thought I should know about it.  Perhaps,  she suggested, he needed glasses.

So we made our first visit to a doctor which  was to be the first of many visits to several doctors, although I didn’t know this at the time.  By now, Eric was complaining of a sore throat so a visit to our family doctor brought a diagnosis of strep throat for which antibiotics were advised by our g.p. That did nothing for the headaches of which he now began complaining.  The ENT doctor admitted the cause of the vision problem was a mystery, and,  strangely he found, Eric had no sinus cavities, so something was definitely wrong.  Altogether we visited five different doctors, each of whom came up with a different verdict. It was the beginning era of psychosomatic diagnoses, a fad which swept through medicine for a time.  If there were no bones sticking through the skin and blood wasn’t poring out the cells, it had to be psychosomatic.

Earlier in the fall I volunteered to publish a booklet on the Crimes of Khrushchev, for the National Minute Women of the USA, Inc., Handbook for the Summit, since Mr. Eisenhower was scheduled for a summit meeting with the Butcher of the Kulaks in June that year.  The booklet was written by a group of former Intelligence Officers, SPX Associates, so while Eric and I  sat in medical offices waiting for tests and conferences, we folded press releases, stuffed envelopes and licked stamps to  announce the publication to a waiting world – we hoped.  These chores occupied our time and gave us something to think and talk about besides his growing illness which was becoming more acute each day, with these  puzzling symptoms.

I was, however, no longer puzzled as I knew in my heart there was a growth on the brain, a diagnosis I kept to myself, but which in my heart I dreaded and didn’t want to hear, but was convinced.   The mysterious symptoms kept advancing: There were days when he seemed very feverish but the thermometer recorded a subnormal temperature.  Other days he suffered from incredible dizziness which made him think he was falling off the bed, even as his head ached and his vision was disturbed, and his throat continued to hurt.  By February, however, he was losing weight, he was very pale, listless, and now began wheezing as if he had asthma.

We went to a Beverly Hills physician who examined him from his toes up, looking at the rough knees and elbows which I often accused Eric of not scrubbing and sent him back to scrub.  All, said this strange doctor, indicative of a shortage of Vitamin A of long standing, and eventually scheduled a brain scan.  The technician there called my attention to the fact he seemed to be burning up, but the temperature was subnormal.

Very shortly the test results came in and  I was advised to take him to a Neurological Center at an address in East Los Angeles.  I didn’t know what a neurological center was until we arrived to find it was the 4th floor of White Memorial Hospital, housing brain surgeons.  On the way to the then unknown destination we stopped at the mailbox. Eric was so excited, the first orders for the Handbook were in the mail which he eagerly tore open on the long trip to what turned out to be a hospital. 

As it turned out, Eric did not leave the hospital, because like Job, that which I feared had come upon me. I was given a grave prognosis:  surgery had to be scheduled for the very next morning, because the statistics were against us.

That was the beginning of a long siege of doctors and hospital visits, which was how ham radios got into the act.

The hospital in East Los Angeles was a very long way from where we lived on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Things did not go well at the medical facility.  I was dividing my days between Eric’s needs at the hospital, which was a drain on his sister,Judy, whom I enrolled in Marymount located on the Peninsula with a bus for pickup and delivery. 

Thus she became a latch key kid.  The situation was very stressful for her, so the ham radio seemed a great diversion from the medical problems confronting us daily. Judy needed something that would engage her attention, as well as make her the center of the activity, something of her own to alleviate her anxiety so I elected ham radio to fill the gap.

Before a ham operator can become a “general” and actually converse on the airway, he/she has to master Morse code and transmit that way, while learning the basics of talk radio, all of which Judy did, pretty much on her own, although I would take her to whatever classes were needed.   Ham radio operators are great family people so when there were weekends of gatherings at the beach, I would take her down to mingle and meet others with similar drives.  I admit I had no hesitation in leaving her with some of the families we met there.  The local paper featured her story as she was the youngest female, self-taught, which also helped her to overcome the anxiety which pervaded the household.

Eventually, through a miracle, Eric returned home, and began a period of recuperation before returning to school.  Judy was by now a general and could talk with young men around the country.  She had a soft sweet dulcet voice (still does actually), but by this time Eric had become a mean little boy!  Throughout his long convalescence at home, Judy waited on him hand and foot, played games with him, just generally doting on him, and he repaid her kindness by shouting across the room at the mike while she was talking with the operators at the other end.  In fact, there wasn’t much he didn’t think of to torment her. 

By then we knew he would live a thing which had been doubtful for so many months,  I volunteered to take him to Morse code classes, too,  so that the two of them would be able to communicate by radio in the days ahead which I visualized as eventually coming to this country, but he didn’t want to do the work.

Judy, however, had visualized herself as a missionary using the radio to report to civilization from the jungles somewhere, and much later that is what she did do for years, plus teaching other missionaries the elements of ham radio.  Of course, she also dragged along her 7 children through those years on the field, and several of them have followed in her footsteps, except they are now computer whizzes.  It all started with ham radio, half a century ago. 

THE REVOLUTION WAS

Many years ago I came into possession of a petition from the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution to the Congress of the United States. This 53-page document was titled, "A Bill of Grievances, filed with the Judiciary Committee of the Senate and the Un-American Activities Committee of the House of Representatives."

The SAR purpose was to "bring about an investigation of the interstate traffic in propaganda textbooks and teaching materials being introduced in the public schools of the Several States, to overthrow constitutional government and to bring about the adoption of a Social Welfare State." This petition of the SAR to the Congress was dated April 19, 1949, which just happens to be, I believe, the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill, an appropriate time, as for so long, Bostonians bragged of being "the cradle of liberty."

It is impossible for me to reproduce the entire document here, and difficult enough just to copy down the material which relates to Dr. William Wirt who was an noted educator and administrator from Gary, Indiana, and who was eventually all but destroyed by his efforts to call attention to the plot to make the United States into a socialist branch of a world government.

I read his story, how he was invited to attend a dinner at the White House early in the regime of F. D. Roosevelt where the table talk related plans for the future of the United States which shocked him. So, on March 23, 1934, he appeared before the House Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, to report the gist of the talk.

The SAR tells his story, beginning on page 45 of their petition. Throughout the material below which I have copied, the emphasis is that of the original authors of the petition. They did reference by footnotes all the sources, but I am not going to write them all up, except that Dr. Wirt's testimony before the House Committee was filed May 2, 1934, No. 1439, 73d Congress.

PLAN OF REVOLUTIONISTS (from Dr. Wirt)

"The fundamental trouble with the 'brain trusters' is that they start with a false assumption. They insist that the America of Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln must first be destroyed and then on the ruins they will reconstruct an America after their own pattern.They do not know that the America of Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln has been the 'new deal' and that during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries we have been making great social progress. The common man is getting his place in the sun. Why try to put him back into the Dark Ages?

"Last summer I asked some of the individuals in this group what their concrete plan was for bringing on the proposed overthrow of the established American social order.

"I was told that they believed that by thwarting our then-evident recovery they would be able to prolong the country's destitution until they had demonstrated to the American people that the Government must operate industry and commerce.....

"The most surprising statement made to me was the following 'We believe that we have Mr. Roosevelt in the middle of a swift stream and that the current is so strong that he cannot turn back or escape from it. We believe that we can keep Mr. Roosevelt there until we are ready to supplant him with a Stalin. We all think that Mr. Roosevelt is only the Kerensky of this revolution.....'

"I asked how they would explain to the American people why their plans for retarding the recovery were not restoring recovery. 'Oh,' they said, 'That would be easy.' All that they would need to do would be to point the finger of scorn at the traitorous opposition. Those traitors in the imaginary war against the depression would be made the goats.(emphasis supplied) And the American people would agree that they, the 'brain trusters,' had been too lenient and in the future they, the 'brain trusters,'should be more firm in dealing with the opposition....

"I was frankly told that I had underestimated the power of propaganda.That since the World War (WWI) propaganda had been developed into a science...that the power of public investigation in their own hands alone would make the cold chills run up and down the spines of other business leaders and politicians--honest men as well as crooks.

"They were sure that they could depend upon the psychology of empty stomachs, and they would keep them empty. The masses would soon agree that anything should be done rather than nothing....

"They were sure that the leaders of industry and labor could be kept quiet by the hope of getting their own share of the Government doles in the form of loans and contracts for material and labor, provided they were subservient.

"They were sure that the colleges and schools could be kept in line by the hope of Federal aid until the many 'new dealers' in the schools and colleges had control of them."

The House adopted a resolution creating a select committee of five members to make an investigation. This committee was instructed ".....to summon Dr. William A. Wirt, of Gary, Ind., before it and to require him to reveal the sources of the statements he has made...and to bring before it all officials and other persons alleged by Dr. Wirt to have given him said information, or to be connected in any way with said activities...."

Dr.Wirt appeared before the Select Committee on April 10, 1934. Certain individuals designated by him were examined on April 14th. He was denied the opportunity to make an opening statement.

Neither he nor his attorney, the Honorable James A. Reed, was permitted to question or cross-examine any of the witnesses. The minority members of the Committee were also denied that right.

It developed from the hearing that the following persons were involved in these charges: (In 1934, Democrats were the majority, Republicans the minority)

The minority members of the committee demanded the right to subpoena these witnesses. The majority decided that it was 'unnecessary.'

On May 2, 1934, the majority filed a report with the following statements: "....it was unnecessary to examine any other witnesses.....From all the evidence presented to the committee there was none whatever showing that there was any person or group in the Government service planning to 'overthrow the existing social order' or planning or doing any of the things mentioned in Dr.Wirt's statement."

The minority members of the committee filed a statement with the following protest: "We cannot join in the majority report. The committee has not met its responsibility as directed by the House in House Resolution 317, enacted by the House of Representatives on March 29, 1934. On the contrary, we report that the committee has by a studied effort deliberately refrained from obtaining the information which it was directed to obtain by such resolution. We further report that the committee has not only deliberately refrained from obtaining such information but has deliberately suppressed the obtaining of such information......

"There can be no question but that the committee was required to subpoena and call in witnesses to ascertain what, if any, public officials were connected with said activities, to wit, 'carrying out a deliberately planned revolution or attempting to thwart the program of a national recovery.' Whether or not such people had talked with Dr. Wirt was entirely immaterial....

"As soon as the resolution was passed and the committee was appointed by the Speaker, the first act of the committee...over the protest and votes...of the minority members, was to pass a resolution limiting the first day's hearing to the testimony of Dr. Wirt with Dr. Wirt's testimony limited to the specific question of naming the people with whom he talked and setting forth their specific conversation.

Thereafter the majority members of the committee, over the protest and vote of the minority members, limited the second day's hearing to the bringing before the committee the six specific witnesses with whom Dr. Wirt talked at a particular party and refused to call any other witnesses that were named by Dr. Wirt in his testimony.....

"As further evidence that the majority members of the committee used this hearing for the avowed purpose of discrediting the witness Dr. Wirt and suppressing the truth with no reasonable desire or effort to obtain the truth, we point out the following:

"First, Dr. Wirt was denied the opportunity in his own way to make his opening statement. When the majority members denied to Dr. Wirt this opportunity, they denied to him a right and a privilege which has been enjoyed by all of the hundreds and thousands of witnesses who have ever appeared before congressional committees, House or Senate.

"Second, it denied to the minority members the right to call a single witness whom they designated or chose to call before the committee. In doing this the committee again repudiated all the precedents of congressional investigations. In doing so the majority members made it inevitable that the proceedings would be a suppression of the truth rather than an uncovering of the truth. As an illustration, what would have the Teapot Dome investigation amounted to if the majority members of the committee investigating those transactions had denied to Senator Walsh, a minority member, the right to call before the committee to examine under oath any and all witnesses whom he chose to call?...

"This committee is not authorized to sit in judgment upon the relative merits of the old order of a free people or a Government-regulated mode of American life. Under a broad, common-sense construction of the resolution creating the committee, we were commissioned to investigate whether Government officials, believing in a socialized American order, were so functioning as to facilitate the establishment.....

"This the American people are entitled to know. This it was not only the privilege but the duty of the committee to ascertain.

"Unfortunately, the committee booted away its opportunity.

"We therefore take the position that the committee has not performed its duties under the resolution and that the committee should be directed by the House to proceed to complete its duties under the resolution." *****

As a further support for its Congressional petition about activities of Educators and "Other Intellectuals". the SAR included a photostatic copy of an announcement of the "Cultural and Scientific Conference for World Peace," held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City, March 25-27, 1949. The headline for the Conference was a welcome to our "international guests" who were addressed as "Honored guests: <em>leading foreign intellectuals who are invited to participate."

The SAR states: "The 'Honored Guests' referred to in that announcement were Communists from Soviet Russia sent to this country to spread propaganda against the Atlantic Pact. This document contains the names of two hundred and seventy-three American "intellectuals' sponsoring the meeting..." For purposes of brevity we will eliminate those names although some of them will sound quite familiar to many readers, and continue with the rest of the story:

"A group of intellectuals headed by President Robert L. Hutchins of the University of Chicago, is backing a movement for World Government. The following statement issued by the Committee for Constitutional Government contains a good analysis of some of the dangers involved in that proposal:

"Among the powers this world government would have are the following: "Equip and direct the world army, which would supplant all national armies, other than small police forces. The American planners of world government no doubt support a world army which would never, never be used against our country and people. But the idea of a world constitution is without value unless the world government is to have the power to use its army, navy and atomb-bombs against any nation whatever.

"Therefore, the world army could be used against us if we were bad, or 'imperialistic,' as others may decide. Furthermore, we would be unable to resist, for under the plan our own defense forces would be liquidated. It is interesting to contemplate American-born soldiers, commanded by foreign generals, waging war against their native country; or the nationals of any other country against their own people. Would this, in fact, be treason? The proposed constitution also contemplates that the world government shall have the power to levy taxes all over the world. As the United States is now helping to support 16 foreign nations, including the richest, one can guess once and guess right the particular spot on the globe which would be selected for the extraction of the bulk of the money. The world government would also have the power to decide national boundaries and form new nations. The planners do not, of course, plan that it would vote to return Alaska to Russia from whom we bought that territory in 1867. However, we do know there are some men in Moscow who would like Alaska back; and if Moscow got enough votes, that would be the result. This brings us down to the big brass tack: How is the voting to be done in the World, Incorporated? How will all these questions be decided? Who will wear the pants? The World has about 2,250,000,000 people. Only one quarter are white. The rest are yellow, brown and black. We have 147,000,000 people, or 7%. Assuming, as we must, that in the sight of God every human being on the planet is of equal worth, there should be one vote per person, in order to be 'democratic.' At least each nation should have representation in the world government in proportion to its population. This is the way Congressmen are apportioned among our 48 states. Therefore, in any question vital to us Americans, we would be out-voted 98 to 7, unless we could gather or buy votes among other nations, most of whom envy us. Any other voting arrangement which would give us representation, not according to our population, but according to our wealth, would create first class and second class citizens in the world government.... These are some of the questions this fantastic world constitution presents to us. They cannot be shrugged off.

As ex-President Hoover and Hugh Gibson say in "The Problem of Lasting Peace," being in a minority in a super-government, the political, economic and social control of our country would ultimately pass from our hands, and all the assurances of our fundamental institutions would be lost." A "Commission on Human Rights" was established by an order of the United States promulgated at Geneva, Switzerland, on December 27, 1947. It is engaged in framing "An International Bill of Rights" to have the force and effect of law as between the nations adhering to it. It would probably be construed in this country as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States in the event of any conflict with our present fundamental law.

Frank E. Holman, President of the American Bar Association has issued the following statement regarding that project: "It is revealing to note the 'makeup' or personnel of the Commission before examining the results of its work. "Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt is the chairman and the sole U.S. representative--she is not a person in any sense trained in legal draftsmanship. She is primarily a social reformer.

"Australia's representative is Col. William Roy Hudgson--by training a military man and from his biography a person whose experience has been confined to government service.

"The United Kingdom's representative is Lord Dukeston--a person with no legal training and so far as his biography shows, no familiarity with legal draftsmanship--a trade unionist by profession.

"These three are the only Anglo-Americans or representatives of English speaking peoples on the Commission of eighteen members. "It is this Commission which has undertaken to draft a 'Bill of Rights' for the people of the United States which so far as the Covenant is concerned is to be ratified as a treaty and under our Constitution to become the supreme law of the land and in due course implemented against all of us by the decrees of a new International Court of Human Relations.

"In spite of this extraordinary and revolutionary program the press and the public and even the Bar seem largely oblivious to the program and how far in certain particulars it is at variance with our fundamental concept of individual rights and freedoms and how far in other particulars it is a proposal for worldwide socialism to be imposed through the United Nations on the United States and on every other member nation."

On the domestic scene we find professors George S. Counts and Harold Rugg continuing their propaganda for a Social Welfare State. As Exhibit No. 36, we submit the book 'Now is the Moment,' by Professor Rugg, eliminated from public schools in the City of Washington after an investigation by the House Committee on the District of Columbia. The following quotations are taken from that book: In re Social Planners: "A key group, which already constitutes a potential national council of design and reconstruction, is assembling at Washington...Every Valley is sending its talent--from Iowa the practical prophet of the Century of the Common Man...from Texas the successful business man...from the metropolis the experienced idealist social worker....

"Not only are the creative energies assembling; they are beginning to push the social system in the direction of a better world. Here, on the very threshold of consummation, is the thing we have dreamed of and pled for...science in government...research in government...In short, a government of social engineering..." (pg. 3-4) Propaganda to be handled by Educators

"...Although a few of our most discerning statesmen...see and are stating clearly the grave task before the nation, there is no large vocal minority telling the Congress that they want something done about it. How can there be when most of the people lack the facts with which to make up their minds? How can there be unless we, who are responsible</em> for assembling the facts and for organizing study and discussion machinery, get the facts before them?

Federal Office of Education--a Propaganda Bureau "To break the Washington bottleneck which has held back American education, there is one major step...that is to create an 'Office of Education for Peace.'

"....a powerful new Office devoted solely to winning the peace should be created. But even that will be of little use unless the Office is given unlimited resources--a budget running into millions to reach ten, twenty, thiry million Americans day after day, week after week, without letup....

"(We) must help put an end to the fear and inertia in our profession...Make it absolutely clear to the Commissioner that he has complete autonomy; that he can try anything within reason at least once: that he is really the Chief-in-Staff of the forces that are fight the War-at-Home over a free, abundant, and creative World; that conventional routine ways of doing things are not wanted...Let Washington make it clear that there shall be no more appeasing in education!" (pages 233-234)

OUR BILL OF GRIEVANCES The Public School System of this country has been converted into a propaganda agency to support the projects, campaigns, crusades, ideas and personal philosophies of a self-appointed group of 'educators' who now assert the right to dominate and control that system. These men intend to nullify the Constitution with propaganda. Their purpose is to create a Social Welfare type of state under a Proletarian Form of Government. A socialistic government is not a democracy. It can only function where there is absolute power to dominate the people. It is the first step toward dictatorship and oppression. American democracy is the democracy of Thomas Jefferson, made effective under a constitution securing individual liberty. It is a Republican Form of Government--the kind of government guaranteed to the people by the Constitution of the United States. The Constitution does not provide for a Proletarian Form of Government. It does not provide for National Socialism. The people alone have the right to determine any changes to be made in their form of government. They have the right to make that decision without being put under the influence of propaganda. We are entitled to a public school system in which these principles will be taught to the Youth of America. There is no place in that system for individuals desiring to use their position or authority to promote any New Deal, Old Deal, Fair Deal, Square Deal, Re-deal or any other kind of Deal. It is wrongful to make those schools an agency of The Political Action Committee, or any other Action Committee or Pressure Group. We dare not use our schools to 'Build a New Social Order.' We deny the right of any individual or group to issue a 'Call to the Teachers of the Nation' to use these schools for such a purpose. These are the methods of Stalin and Hitler. They cannot be tolerated by the free people of America.

RELIGION: By philosophy, mysticism, the development of liberal cults, and the furtherance of atheism, to discredit all Christian creeds.

ETHICAL: Corrupt morality by advocating promiscuity and advising high school and university students to practice same; introduction of companionate marriage ideas; advocation of legalized abortions; advancement of theoretical interracial practices—marriage of white women to colored men—by actual consummation through willing participants where obtainable.  Destruction of the family, abolition of inheritance, even to the extent of names; destruction of all records of title, birth and family history.

AESTHETIC: Cultivation of the ugly, futuristic and aberrant in art, literature, the drama and music, the practice of crude orientalism, modernism, and degenerate perversion.

SOCIOLOGICAL:  Abolition of social opposition by subversive practices; the display of vulgar extravagance, promotion and exaggeration of all social and economic conditions, political corruption, etc., to create unrest, suspicion and revolt by the workers, intensify class war.

INDUSTRIAL AND FINANCIAL: Create mistrust of banks by circulation of rumors of instability and distress.  Destroy ideals in craftsmanship and pride of workmanship; set up—by series of public talks by professors of sociology and others—the picture of a golden serpent of profit.  Standardization of the cheap and shoddy; advocate the state monopoly of ownership; exchange of all foreign currency at slight discount for U.S. gold and gradually withdraw gold from circulation, send all gold currency to Russia.

POLITICAL: Set up the ideal of thinking ‘internationally,’ so as to undermine national patriotism; weaken all government departments by corruption.  Attack all political parties and create distrust and suspicion upon any an all occasions.  Amplify facts by fiction and create startling exposures.  Ridicule all patriotic effort and undermine all preparation for defense; carry out our set policy for world revolution outlined in Rykoff’s position.

RYKOFF: in Pravda, said:  “It is our duty to inculcate in the minds of all nations, the theory of international friendship, pacifism and disarmament, at the same time, however, never for one moment relaxing our efforts in the upbuilding of our own military establishment.”

LENIN said: “When a country is selected for attack we must first set up before the youth of  that land a mental barrage which will forever prohibit the possibility of that youth being  moulded into an armed force to oppose our invading armies.  This can most successfully be done through creating ‘war horror’ thought and by teaching of pacifism and non-resistance.  It will be found that powerful organizations of non-communists can be created for this purpose particularly with the aid of liberal-minded ministers, professors and lecturers.”
