The Mattachine Society

This morning’s news via the 700 Club contained the information another homosexual minister is to be ordained by the Episcopal Church as a bishop.  That brought up memories which momentarily, at least, supersede more discussion on the chemicals in our food which I had planned to continue!

Approximately 1976, I guess, the charismatic movement was big and I wanted to learn more about it.  Pat Robertson had an Episcopal minister on his 700 Club  many times so when I heard a local Episcopal church was promoting a “life in the spirit” evening class I determined to attend and invited my mother to go with me.  She had resisted being “born again” for some time, said she was tired of having us preach to her, but nevertheless this promised a diversion from sitting home evenings alone, so she said she would go with me.

The first meeting was marred by being in a small stuffy room with no moving air and both the “priest” and his wife smoked!  Not only did it appear unseemly but it was very rude since there was no way for the seated “prisoners” to escape!

I have always been much better at telling people what I think by letter than by voice so I wrote and told him  I could not imagine The Christ delivering the Sermon on the Mount or John the Baptist preaching with a cigarette between the fingers.  As far as I was concerned, I told him in my letter,  he could smoke all he wanted but to do it under those circumstances approached the unforgiveable!

I received a phone call apology in which he said he read my letter to his congregation which had long wanted him to give it up.  At all events he promised not to smoke at the classes so Mother and I attended.   At the end of the week’s  programs an invitation was given at the altar to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and Momma was the first one there!

Later,  Mother and I discussed the week’s  program and I mentioned to her I had never attended a high church Sunday service and perhaps we should go at which she admitted she hadn’t either,  so we decided to attend the following Sunday.

The sanctuary was pretty empty when we arrive a bit early.    At Chuck Smith’s Santa Ana church which we attended regularly we always sat on end seats fairly well down front.  This made it easy to leave if we needed to, without crawling over knees.

Don’t ask me why, cause I don’t know, on this Sunday we had our choice of the entire sanctuary. So we went to the center, sat in the center row in the center as well as from side to side. Seats filled in around us as time for church came closer, so we were pretty well hemmed in by the time church began with a  solemn procession down the middle aisle, altar boys carrying pennants and incense burner which proceeded  up to the altar where the priest wearing  elaborately decorated garments took his place behind the podium.

He had an important announcement to begin the service, that a representative was present to speak to congregants after church on the patio over coffee about ordaining homosexual priests.

I looked at Mother. She looked back at me. I said, “You know if we leave now, we can still get to Chuck’s on time.”

“Okay,” she said, “Let’s go.”

I had feared for a moment she might not agree with me, but my mother was dauntless. So in the midst of the priest’s next announcement, whatever it may have been, I don’t know, we rose.  It wasn’t easy getting past the sets of knees between us and the aisle, proceeding up said aisle to the double exit door, but we made it.  I became aware  total silence fell  over the church, when we stood up in mid-sentence so to speak.  What could you expect from a couple of women who couldn’t tolerate cigarette smoke in a closed room?

We were just a tad late to Chuck’s.  We didn’t get our usual seats, but we were there! The first time I heard Chuck, he read Scripture to say, “And on earth peace to men of good will—” Not “good will to men.”  It makes a difference.

Not long afterwards  we went to a ladies’ retreat in the mountains given by Chuck's church.  Kay Smith, his wife,  was the leader.  I think it was only 3 days long but when the invitation was given again,  Mother literally ran down to the altar. I am not sure if she thought it might not have taken at the Episcopal Church!

At the Episcopal announcement, I  remembered some years before a man came to my door who reminded me of the descriptions given of Alger Hiss’s nemesis, Whittaker Chambers, shabby and unkempt.   He was looking for a place to stay to finish writing a book about the Mattachine Society of which I had never heard.  He introduced himself as a former reporter for the Los Angeles Herald, so I invited him in to discuss it.  There were some misgivings on my part, but as I recall now from a far distance, he did stay a few days.

A local doctor concerned about what was happening to our country was making arrangements for a permanent place for Fred Seelig to finish his book, Destroy the Accuser. That did happen some time later, but when Fred first came to the door I was somewhat doubtful.

He told me about the secret society, The Mattachine Society, organized to promote homosexuals by a Communist Party organizer, Harry Hay, but to which some prominent people belonged.  Fred sued his wife for divorce when he discovered her practicing her perversion on their children and showed me pictures of her French kissing the little boy.

He didn’t anticipate having any problems with the divorce so he was astonished when the Judge awarded her the divorce and custody of the children!  This set him out on a nationwide search about this organization, gathering documentary evidence along the way.  In Texas he was seized without papers by U.S. Marshals and removed to the Federal Insane Asylum in Missouri where he spent nearly two years.   I suppose it might have been about 1962-3, as I recall Robert Kennedy was Attorney General.

It was a long sad story before Seelig’s book was published and he sent me a copy.  During that time I found no one had ever heard of the Mattachine Society which came and went and was superseded by an even more radical organization. I noted that Obama’s appointment of Kevin Jennings as one of his Czars, was proud to identify himself as having been mentored by Harry Hay, the Communist founder of the Mattachines.
Hay appeared before a government committee in July, 1955 and took the Fifth Amendment about his Communist Party membership, but made no secret of it, on his website years later.

Anyway, they are all out of the closet now, and Obama  declared last year that June is homosexual month, so the Episcopal Church has added another Bishop.  Their first appointment caused the founding of the Anglican Church which split from them and presumably there will be some more – if there are, indeed, that many people left who care.

The Right to Choose

My loyal fans which consists of at least six persons may have been wondering where I have been for the last week – I have been wondering that, too.  The email seems to come in by the bucketful and, of course, it all needs to be read, and, believe me, since the present administration, it is all bad, bad, bad.  And some of it is worse!

My son told me a long time ago to be more frugal in printing out stuff as cartridge ink ends up costing $3500 a gallon!  Well, of course, I only buy it in ounces at a time, but then I go thru it like a dose of salts!  So I’ve tried, but my computer room looks as if a paper storm had occurred somewhere what with all the unfiled piles of printed stuff lying on every flat surface available.

The latest one dated May 14, however, had me as mad as a wet hen!  This was a bulletin from the World Net Daily by Bob Unruh reporting in a proposal pending in Congress and sponsored by Rep John Dingell, D.Mich, “To equip the FDA with the authority and funding it needs to regulate what is now a global marketplace for food, Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics.”

I used to think Dingell was on the consumers’ side, but I see now that was a gross error in judgment on my part.  You see, in about 1979 he was chairman of a committee looking into the depredations the FDA made into health food stores and other illegalities perpetrated on medical doctors who had the audacity to leave the fold of packaged thinking and branch off into alternatives.  I was amazed to learn Dingell was still in the House and it does seem as if perhaps old age has made him a little bit ditzy about Americans Constitutional rights!

I’m doing all this from memory, you understand, although I have the documents on my shelf and just too lazy to get them to run thru to refresh my memory.  The fact is I actually wrote a book, Devil’s Food, in which I documented the “crime against pure food and drugs” committed by this agency.  That, in fact, was the title of a book penned by Dr. Wylie who founded the FDA around the beginning of the 20th Century, and who found it was more criminal than the organizations it was founded to contain!   That’s on my shelf too, and I will get it down one of these days.

I spent about 6 months putting my book Devil’s Food together to prove that the then more than 10,000  chemicals in the food chain were/are responsible for much of the persistent ill health plaguing Americans today.  When you add the artificial foods (white buns, white bread which bear no relation to bread as we used to know it,   artificially effervescent beverages consumed by the gallon, the chemicals fed the beef, chickens and other livestock which are then passed to the consumers, the list goes on and on) along with the drugs we are prescribed as “cures” for the resultant plagues which afflict us, it is a wonder we are not all in wheelchairs, not to mention grossly overweight, but we are getting there.  Fodder for the Obamacare health program!

The government has taken the position that we, the consumers, have no right to decide for ourselves what we will eat.  That is in a brief filed in April to support a “motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund over the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s ban on the interstate sale of raw milk.”

The position taken by the government’s attorneys was “There is no ‘deeply rooted’ historical tradition of unfettered access to foods of all kinds…..Plaintiffs assertion of a ‘fundamental right to their own bodily and physical health, which includes what foods they do and do not choose to consume for themselves and their families’ is similarly unavailing because plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to obtain any food they wish,’” argues government lawyers.

Raw milk has been the target for years, despite the fact the barns of the producers of it are kept immaculately, as compared to those where the milk is sterilized by pasteurization and then homogenized.  Years and years ago studies showed the milk so treated – and after all it is produced to feed another cow – will not keep the calf alive anywhere from 3 to 6 months or less, because all living elements have been destroyed and what is passed on are the hormones given the cow to produce more milk! This is all a matter of record.

About ten years ago I had a cat come to me, and I can see him yet as he crawled across the gravel drive, his great eyes fixed on me and when he was close enough I could see he was on the verge of total starvation.  He had no hair on his tail, and his body was no wider than his back bone.  His face looked as if every wild creature in our area (we do have skunks, raccoons, havelinas, coyotes) had a pass at him.

We could still get raw milk and that’s what I gave him for two weeks, until he demonstrated he could handle stronger foods, such as cat food.  He turned out to be a long-haired beautiful grey and white six-year old male.  That bony protuberance with no hair became a plumy fan while his face and eyes radiated intelligence.  He owed it all to the raw milk which very shortly disappeared forever from stores.

Do you remember the story about Daniel who refused to eat the rich foods of the King and begged for a 10-day trial to prove his diet of vegetables (pulse) was healthier – and so it turned out to be.   I have only begun to touch on this subject so we’ll have to go at it again soon because this bill to take away your right to make your own choices in food is pending in Congress now.  We can add it to the insults being hurled at your freedoms by the incumbents about which you are speaking up, I hope.  Unless you do, you know, the future looks pretty dim.

Liberty has become license.

This morning’s (4/6/10) 700 Club reported on   bullying, a growing avocation for some students  in public schools. The target here was a 10-year old, thin little boy who didn’t appear to have much physical stamina.  Not long ago Dr. Phil had a program about the same thing, except in his case it was girls of high school age.  Apparently two teens, separately and independent of each other,  committed suicide as a consequence of being bullied.

While I am not in the habit of watching Dr. Phil,  I am in the habit of watching the 700 Club, which can start your day with an upbeat story along with a prayer, rather than  the dreary news of the world. which is a downer.  From years past I remember people in my life who would stop at church on their way to work, but few churches are left which are open at that hour, and certainly not in my town.

The TV hosts speculated about the bullying and what drives these kids to be so mean.  My mind flitted back to a speech I ran across in 1953, and published in my monthly bulletin for the California Chapter of the now defunct Minute Women, USA, Inc.  The speech was the product of a Canadian psychiatrist, G. Brock Chisholm. Until I laid it out in my bulletin,  apparently the only people who knew what this miserable individual said  had been those present in 1945, chief of whom was Abe Fortas who became very controversial on his own several years later, but then  he lauded Chisholm, saying that “he not only pleads for mature men and women, but the nature of his plea discloses that he himself is that extraordinary creature: a man of maturity.”

At the time I was a very new Christian and not too learned, and I’m sorry but what this guy’s speech  disclosed to me, was a man who at the very least was an atheist,  very likely a Marxist and wicked to boot.  So I was shocked, especially since his weird concepts were greeted with pleasure by his audience  which included the equally strange Henry Wallace, who ran for President  on the “Progressive Party,”  and they all  ate up this man’s speech on the “reestablishment of peacetime society,”  in which Chisholm outlined the responsibility of psychiatry as well as education to remodel mankind.

Man’s revolt against Christian civilization had been going on long before this, but his speech was, in my estimation, the catalyst for the promotion of every kind of shameful wickedness, particularly in the schools and became the catalyst for me then to decide never to allow either of my two, a son and a daughter, to attend public schools.  And for the most part they never did.

I didn’t then have even a fleeting thought about tearing them all down, but I certainly have since!

So many of Europe’s wars from medieval times onward were really family quarrels, and even right up to WWI, when all those “royal” relatives disagreed, but what had that to do with the citizens of the United States, whose Founders said keep out of European affairs?

Chisholm dispensed a lot of b.s. on the ailments of mankind which cause the creation of wars, and then he said:”For a cause we must seek some consistent thread running through the weave of all civilizations we have known preventing the development of all or almost all the people to a state of true maturity.”  Your definition of maturity and mine might be somewhat different from Chisholm’s.  (He was  revered by all the leftwingers of his era) Then he asked the question:

“What basic psychological distortion can be found in every civilization of which we know anything?  It must be a force which discourages the ability to see and acknowledge patent facts, which prevent the rational use of intelligence, which teaches or encourages the ability to dissociate and to believe contrary to and in spite of clear evidence, which produces inferiority, guilt and fear, which makes controlling other people’s personal behavior emotionally necessary, which encourages prejudice and the inability to see, understand and sympathize with other people’s points of view.  Is there any force so potent and so pervasive that it can do all these things in all civilizations?”

Chisholm answered his own question, naming this force, the cause of all these “immaturities’” As he saw it:  “There is—just one.  The only lowest common denominator of all civilizations and the only psychological force capable of producing these perversions is morality, the concept of right and wrong, the poison long ago described and warned against as the ‘fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.’”

Chisholm wasn’t finished, however, with his condemnation. He said, “We have been very slow to rediscover this truth and to recognize the unnecessary and artificially imposed inferiority, guilt and fear, commonly known as sin, under which we have almost all labored and which produces so much of the social maladjustment and unhappiness in this world.  For many generations we have bowed our necks to the yoke of the conviction of sin.  We have swallowed all manner of poisonous certainties fed us by our parents, our Sunday and day school teachers, our politicians, our priests, our newspapers and others with a vested interest in controlling us.  ‘Thou shalt become as gods, knowing good and evil,’ good and evil with which to keep children under control, with which to impose local and familial and national loyalties and with which to blind children to their glorious intellectual heritage.”

Chisholm’s condemnation of the knowledge of good and evil continued for many more paragraphs,  aimed entirely at Biblical  concepts of  right and wrong.  He called for the “reinterpretation and eventually eradication of the concept of right and wrong which has been the basis of child training, the substitution of intelligent and rational thinking for faith in the certainties of the old people, these are the belated objectives of practically all effective psychotherapy……The suggestion that we should stop teaching children moralities and right and wrongs and instead protect their original intellectual integrity has of course to be met by an outcry of heretic or iconoclast, such as was raised against Galileo for finding another planet, and against those who claimed the world was round (and didn’t that first appear in the Bible?)….etc., etc., ad nauseum.

He finally got to the meat of his subject which is why I am bringing it up here, “The pretense is made, as it has been made in relation to the finding of any extension of truth, that to do away with right and wrong would produce uncivilized people, immorality, lawlessness and social chaos. The fact is that most psychiatrists and psychologists and many other respectable people have escaped from these moral chains and are able to observe and think freely.  Most of the patients they have treated successfully have done the same and yet they show no signs of social or personal degeneration, no lack of social responsibility, no tendency toward social anarchy…(oh yeah?)….Freedom from moralities means freedom to observe, to think and behave sensibly, ..free from outmoded types of loyalties (That couldn’t be the reason our prisons are overflowing with people without concepts of right and wrong? …They learned it in school?)

“If the race is to be freed from the crippling burden of good and evil it must be psychiatrists who take the original responsibility…..we have perhaps fifteen or even twenty years….to change the dearest certainties of enough of the human race, …to root out  and destroy the oldest and most flourishing parasitical growth in the world, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil ….the sciences of living, should be made available to all the people by being taught to all children in primary and secondary schools…..only so, I think, can we help our children to carry their responsibilities as world citizens…..psychiatry must now decide what is to be the immediate future of the human race.  No one else can.  And this is the prime responsibility of psychiatry.”

Now what has all that to do with bullying?  There are, of course, even worse things going on in the public schools which have become dens of iniquity, just as I visualized when I first read Chisholm’s speech back in 1953.  That was about the time that sex education was introduced as well, because its promoters said the parents wouldn’t do it.  In Massachusetts every degenerate vice is now being taught (Mass Resistance.com) where the Cradle of Liberty has been traded for the Cradle of License. The things going on there may well be occurring more secretly in many other states as well.

What other result was possible with the removal of  all  concepts of right and wrong— based on the Ten Commandments?  It was there in the Garden the human conscience was born, the ability to recognize the difference between right and wrong.  Now we have the concept “If it feels good, do it.”

Way back about 1848 when the system of public schools was first being promoted, Dr. Charles Hodge predicted it would become the “greatest engine for the propagation of nihilism the world has ever seen.”  And so it has become.

IS SMERSH ALIVE AND WELL?

It may be  although according to the popular TV show, NCIS, which based  the plot of their May 4, show on a renegade former KGB  agent planted to run a bookstore and pretend to be an American.  He was known by a typical Anglo name cribbed from a dead infant in Canada.

This plot dreamed up by a Hollywood script writer was a fact during WWII -- it was a common ploy of the Soviets from early in their undeclared war against their saviour, the United States on whose dollars they lived.

The Soviets may have thought they dreamed  up the techniques  of planting agents as if they were native born to the culture to which they were assigned, ready to carry out at a moment’s notice  whatever duties for which they were trained, but they were not. In 1860,  only a dozen years after Marx’s Manifesto first appeared, a novel by Willkie Collins, based on such a  deception was published in England, under the title of The Woman in White.

In the Soviets’ 20th Century assignments of this nature, they usually and frequently called for  the death penalty of someone, deceptively made to look natural,  suicide, or even assassinations.   Chores of this type were usually carried out through  Department 13, SMERSH, Department of Blood Wet Affairs.

In a conversation with my niece many years ago, I mentioned this department and she laughed.  She thought it was a figment of Ian Fleming’s imagination and didn’t exist.  I assured her it was very active indeed, and, after all, Fleming had once been a British agent himself.  Why wouldn’t he know?

In fact, one of my first endeavors to write a book was a puny effort to tell the story of murders which had taken place on U.S. soil –murders of people who impeded KGB’s efforts –got in the way so to speak.

I called my poor effort “Murder With a Guarantee” and my dear daughter typed it for me, even while telling me it was too gruesome!  The manuscript is still floating around here some place, but others told the story better and one of them had bona fides and I had none!  And, of course, it was common to speak of the “cold war,” almost reassuring, as if in that kind of war, no one ever died, whereas under Stalin people died by the thousands—but it wasn’t nice to talk about in polite society!

Being a voracious reader, particularly of mystery novels, it was just a short step to change my reading habits when I first realized something was seriously wrong in our country.  So how about true life crime instead?  Guenther Reinhardt‘s recounting in Crime Without Punishment about political crimes was published not long after I became aware something was seriously wrong in this country.  My 1952 copy of his book is in terrible shape, fallen apart at the seams so to speak, sere and brown, but still legible as he tells about the crimes of “Soviet agents who worked …and committed the crimes that went unpunished.”

His publishers previewed the book’s contents for readers, saying:  “This shocking story of Soviet espionage and violence in America is told by one of the foremost authorities….. He reopens some of the most mysterious political crimes of modern times, …marked for death by  Moscow  bosses….and the shooting of Carlo Tresca..by Agents of Murder Inc. – financed by the the Soviet secret police and never officially solved… Reinhardt discloses the wartime infiltration of U.S. government agencies by carefully trained spies…..the powerful Communist apparatus in Mexico which directed the penetration of Latin America….he details the infiltration of the structure of America’s occupation of Germany by Soviet agents …who committed the crimes that went unpunished.”

Reinhardt’s subtitle was:  “The Secret Soviet Terror Against America.”

Reinhardt  wrote: “these crimes, as committed by the Soviet secret services, are so commonplace that I have met and investigated them around the world in hamlet and metropolis, …. horrible enough, that largely they have gone unpunished is a surpassing horror.”

In one chapter Guenther tells of a meeting he had in Mexico with a strange little man he did not like who was introduced to him as “Mr. Kaufman,” who  7 years later achieved much more status as J.V.Peters, named by Whittaker Chambers “as the man who gave orders to Alger Hiss….One of his jobs during the war was to place Communists in important posts in the armed forces.  He had already put them into other branches of government…. he could hardly spend too much time on a matter concerning the murder of one man when he had the murder of a world on his mind.”

Later Reinhardt  tells of the murder of an American newspaperman in Oslo whose body was recovered five months after his disappearance.  Norwegian and American governments, Reinhardt claimed,  held evidence proving death by murder, as well as the identities of the murderers, and that “All of them are members of the Soviet intelligence apparatus. Technicalities of law and the still nervous reluctance on the part of some American officials to meet Soviet atrocities with direct action keep both the punishment and even the facts of the crime secret behind what might seem a Lace Curtain of hesitancy….Russia offers only treachery in return for the friendship extended by the other occupying powers….There were all too few officials of the occupation who saw the Red picture….too few, actually, to ever force a revelation to the American public of the crimes committed by the Soviet every day against the United States…….”

So what’s new?  How different is it today? Billions and trillions of dollars (your tax dollars at work) later and we are still behind the eight ball.  Many unknown heroes sacrificed their lives in this secret struggle, believing they were dying on behalf of freedom, liberty, the Stars and Stripes, not knowing the enemy was at their backs.    More on this  later.

Miracle in Los Angeles

A few years ago I was smitten by a book by Squire Rushnell, When God Winks At You. The small book was a collection of remarkable stories of what might be called "coincidences" by people who don't believe there is a God who guides our lives. The rest of us would call them miracles. The book impressed me so much I enthused over it and purchased a number of copies to give to friends, earning a spot on Facebook as a "friend" of Squire's.

I have had inexplicable events in my own life, times when I was certain God was directing things: take, for instance, when my son was shot by an illegal.

Rick was in the LAPD. It was just after Christmas in 1982. It was not uncommon for drunks to greet the New Year by firing guns in the air (a senseless act no matter how you slice it). Some states have passed laws to make this illegal, because a cop in a black and white hears shots fired, has to investigate the source, and doesn't know till he arrives on the scene what he is about to get into. In Rick's case, for the space of 50 seconds his life hung in the balance.

That's all it was --fifty seconds from the time he called in on his radio, arrived on the scene, he was lying on the ground with a bullet in his head! He had located the gunshots source for sure! The thing that made him mad was that his shirt was brand new (cops buy their own). It was the first time he'd worn it and it was getting dirty covered with his blood! He decided to get back into the fray, started to get up, thought better of it and lay down again.

As he told it, after he called in his location and saw this weaving drunk with a semi-automatic rifle under a spotlight outside a ladies' garment factory near USC, he left the car, called in English and Spanish to put down the gun, ducked behind a stone wall about 80 feet from the perp. What he didn't see were two other guys lurking in the dark, equally drunk and equally armed.

His mistake was peeking over the wall, instead of putting his hat on a pole and lifting it up, to see if the perpetrator had obeyed. He was met with a bullet in the face! It all happened so quickly. The bullet entered the bridge of his nose 50 seconds after he'd left the security of the black and white! (Timing records were kept by the car's equipment and the tape in the P.D.)
Why hadn't the bullet continued through his head to exit the back of his skull? That would have been the norm, spattering his brains on the wall and sidewalk. It hadn't happened!

Rick was the senior in the car and knew his rookie partner was following protocol and continuing the gun battle as prescribed. He also knew he was hit in the head but not where and he was very much aware his new shirt was getting dirty. He heard sirens in the background and realized his rescuers were going by, so as he stifled the impulse to get up, he laid back down on the cold dirty sidewalk and called again on his belt radio. Rescuers found him lying on the cold dirty sidewalk. Even in California, winter sidewalks are too cold for comfort.

On the way to the hospital he heard for the first time about the 3 illegals. The two he hadn't seen were in the dark outside the spotlight's rays. One of them armed with a hand gun shot him, catching in the face. They were supposed to be guards, paid by the factory owner for the 25 females who lived and slept in the building where they sewed all day. I explain this because of what happened later.

In the hospital the medics and cops discussed the miraculous course of the bullet. One doctor laughed, "Now he has three sinus cavities." Very funny. The puzzle to all was the impossibility of the gun's carrying fully loaded projectiles. But the bullets did carry the normal amount of fire power. Why then had the bullet not just gone straight through from the front and out the back?

Susan, Rick's girl, and I heard the discussion. We were sitting in the hall listening to the talk around us from the men posted to guard the door-- information I could have lived without forever. When an officer is shot, no one is off duty even at shift change, until the perpetrators are apprehended and secured, and guards are posted at the hospital in the event of pursuit by the offenders.

A squad car had immediately been dispatched to pick me up and bring me from home in Orange County to the hospital. In a short time the efficiency of the system landed me outside his door in the middle of the night while we waited for the decision as to what went next with the victim, now a patient, on whom nothing could be done until the stabilization of his body's system to deal with this unexpected intrusion of a piece of lead in his head, shattering his left cheek bone on its way. The bullet stopped at the brain pan, not penetrating it, which is so thin, how could it not?

It was nearly 6 am when my niece and her husband brought me home Sunday morning. My phone rang shortly after. Radio news were already airing the story. An old friend on the line, wanted details, saying prayer chains were beginning for Rick's survival. I told him prayers were not needed, what was needed were paeans of praise! For those 50 seconds Rick's life had been in the balance. He survived. What can one say except praise the Lord for that?

Eventually Sunday evening his body stabilized and the bullet removed. Recovery could begin.

His cousin, my niece and her husband, returned with a camera to record what a face looks like after a bullet! It isn't a pretty picture, let me tell you.

Even then illegals received all the protection a government could give, especially in Los Angeles. The story, told by the LA Times, as if Rick was hit by a stray or ricochet bullet and as if it was all a big joke, and instead of the attempted murder it was. Nothing was made of the miracle.

A week later, on the next Sunday morning, my company hosted a long-scheduled industry breakfast on the Queen Mary. Based on the Times' story one of my customers learned I was the mother of the police officer who was shot, sat at his table, filled with mirth. He laughed in my face at the "cop who was shot in the nose!"

The end of the story, however, was none of the above.

A few days after the shooting my mother and I drove up to the hospital where we found Rick surrounded by buddies from LAPD. It was a noisy conclave, as they laughed and talked, calling him "the miracle cop." (A title he bore for the next few years until he was forced to retire because of severe mysterious head pains, possibly caused by bruising of the brain.) Perhaps they were feeling relief, it wasn't they in the bed who had been bleeding on a dirty sidewalk!

Momma and I never did reach his side. We stood in the doorway, catching glimpses of him thru the forest of blue legs and bodies. We could, however, hear his voice loudly bragging he was going to get rich. He was going to sue the factory owner who illegally hired these illegals and illegally armed them making the whole event possible. (Nothing was ever done to that person, by the way.)

Mother and I looked at each other, then turned and left. He didn't see us or know we had been there. It took an hour to return to Orange County and drop Momma at her place and then get home. I called Rick to let him know he had not been forgotten, we had been there.

We chatted about how he was getting along, and then I said, "Rick, I heard so much about greed and gold, and not a word about gratitude. Don't you realize you are alive today because of God performing a miracle?" There was a moment's silence. "Thanks, mom," he said as we hung up.

The end of the story I heard later. He called Susan who came and took him to his house in a an LA suburb. On that Sunday I was at my company breakfast, he went to his nearest church. At the altar call he went forward to tell his story and give his thanks and cry a little bit. Then he could come home and recuperate in peace. Life wasn't easy for a long time, but he was alive.

A few months later he and Susan married. Today both their girls are in college. Since then many more "cops" have died in the service of their community. Sometimes they do get the sympathy of their neighbors and friends. Eric had received one card of condolence from one Angeleno. He was really touched and impressed a stranger would thank him.

Sometimes the press and the faces which read the news on TV do tell the truth about the police or armed forces' circumstances, but all this happened just before the infamous event of the 6'3" 275 pound Rodney King episode in which only selected portions of the video were played endlessly to brainwash viewers to stir up sympathy for the violation of King's "civil rights" while the facts were played down. Few victims get that kind of coverage unless it can be built into a case against the status quo.

King continued his defiance of law and order for years, even after receiving all kinds of accolades not extended to the lady cop who tried to arrest him, whom he resisted until the males came to her aid. The left used it to bring down a very good Chief of Police, Gates, and to put all police everywhere in disrepute. They are still doing it. The war against God and country is continues.

The fabric of demolished government

The Internet is awash with entries lamenting the extinction of the American republic. I wonder where all those people were during the last several decades--were they among the so-called Christians whose attitude was "let go, let God," as they went on their merry ways, doing little or nothing but enjoying their good life? I used to watch the late D. James Kennedy as he valiantly attempted to stir his audience to get off their duffs and at least write a letter--do something for your country! That is little enough.

Issue after issue has appeared requiring Americans to speak out, but more people watch a ballgame, vote for dancers or new idols (and I have only seen/heard when passing by and most of them ought to be ashamed of thinking they could sing! No, now that I think of it, it takes a lot of guts to stand up and bellow what passes for song, but they are quite gutless when it comes to speaking on behalf of the land of their birth), than ever went to the polls, even their hometown polls, much less national. Not until stirred by propaganda that would make Hitler blush!

I've been "doing something" for more than 55 years and the apathy among Americans makes me ill, even though I have to agree with many, that we have been given the lesser of two evils for presidential candidates from way back--way, way back! Add to that the schools have turned out brainwashed kids in large numbers -- look at the high schoolers demonstrating for illegals down in Phoenix--not dry behind the ears -- and you know they were put up to it by their teachers and/or parents when they are spouting the canned slogans which passes for thought these days.

We used to have Congressional Committees capable of investigating the origins of movements of this kind -- I have printed hearings of such hearings, although it is late at night and I don't feel like unpacking them to give you chapter and verse on such things as the Kent State mess, or the so-called peace movement, and all the other things that the radical left has originated since the first time they stirred popular sentiment.

What was that bombing in Los Angeles back in the '20's, not to mention the Sacco-Vanzetti crusade they put on, or even the hatred they displayed during the Viet Nam war yet gave such accolades to the likes of Jane Fonda who gave aid and comfort to the enemy. Not that I was for the war--it was a farce--to send our great young men to fight Communists when we were awash with them in the White House, the State Department, the Treasury Dept, and dozens of other
agencies of government. A schizophrenic situation, saying we had a "cold war" even as we financed any and all Communist/socialist governments around the world who vote against the U.S. at every opportunity, despise us, call us names, create shooting incidents, get away with it, and then put out their hands to be crossed with silver!

There has never in all history been a country that dusted off the vanquished, restarted their commerce, rebuilt their houses, factories, hospitals, schools, sent food, clothing, medical aid, and asked for nothing in return but a friendly smile-- until and even now when we face financial ruin at the hands of the greedy, rapacious rascals in Congress and the top-heavy government bureaus!

When I read Daniel Webster's eulogy to George Washington in 1832, it makes me feel like weeping:

"Other misfortunes may be borne, or their effects overcome. If disastrous wars should sweep our commerce from the ocean, another generation may renew it. If it exhaust our treasury, future industry may replenish it; if it desolate and lay waste our fields, still under a new cultivation, they will grow green again, and ripen to future harvest.

"It were but a trifle even if the walls of yonder Capitol were to crumple, if its lofty pillars should fall, and its gorgeous decorations be all covered by the dust of the valley. All these may be rebuilt.

"But who shall reconstruct the fabric of demolished government?

"Who shall rear again the well-proportioned columns of constitutional liberty?

"Who shall frame together the skillful architecture which unites national sovereignty with States rights, individual security, and Public prosperity?

"No, if these columns fall, they will be raised not again. Like the coliseum and the Parthenon, they will be destined to a mournful and a melancholy immortality. Bitterer tears, however, will flow over them than were ever shed over the monuments of Roman or Grecian art; for they will be the monuments of a more glorious edifice than Greece or Rome ever saw, the edifice of constitutional American liberty." (emphasis my own)

But read it and weep. We are on the way, and if anyone had really listened to the pre-election oratory, they would have recognized it for what it was and is. The Constitution by Marx.
